Medical Students

Much like queerness, medical school is a unique and challenging experience, and without the visibility of others who share your intersecting identities it can be particularly easy to feel isolated.

Equally however, having others in the same boat as you can be incredibly validating and empowering, and ALMA exists to do just that - helping to foster friendships and connect a network of students from medical schools across Australia and Aotearoa.

Some ways that we cultivate community and connection among ALMA students:

    • Students group chat: An informal social space for students to keep in touch with each other throughout the year and organise events
    • SNACC (Sunday-Night-ALMA-Catch Up-Call) time! Also known as our monthly students zoom catch-up call where we jump on to talk with each other (occasionally complete with themes and/or games)!
    • Students dinner at ALMAs annual conference

Some ways that ALMA actively works to support its student members:

    • Subsidised conference fees and financial support to help eliminate financial barriers which may prevent students from participating in the ALMA community
    • Providing networking and mentoring opportunities (see Mentorship on our Projects page)

If you're a medical student and interested in joining ALMA, we'd love to hear from you!

ALMA acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.

We pay respects to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today

We acknowledge Māori as tangata whenua in Aotearoa New Zealand
