Personal and Professional ConnectionALMA is a non-profit organisation that provides a support network for lesbian, queer women and non-binary doctors and medical students across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a space wherein the unique intersection of personal and professional identities creates an environment of mutual understanding, support, mentorship, and uplifting. ALMA’s annual members’ conference is a forum for learning, creating new connections and nurturing old ones amongst doctors and medical students at all career stages. ALMA also facilitates peer mentoring groups and state-based events to further these connections. |
AdvocacyThe sharing of knowledge within ALMA allows members to become better, more competent health practitioners and advocates for our patients. We value a holistic approach to patient care, which involves recognising how personal, social, cultural, and environmental issues can impact our patients, and developing skills in providing respectful, affirming, and empowering healthcare. ALMA also does work in the realms of local and international human rights advocacy including status with the United Nations ECOSOC, providing LGBTQIA+ health research grants, and participating in local grass roots environmental and social activism. ALMA’s DocLIST is a publicly available online patient-nominated database of healthcare professionals who provide affirming care for lesbian, bisexual and non-binary patients. |
